Sea Shepherd

Today at Enrich Grant who was a Sea Shepherd came in to talk to us about whale hunting. He showed us a video about whale hunting. The Japanese said that they are taking whales for scientific research, but if they were, they wouldn't be killing thousands of whales a year. The Sea Shepherd crew didn't eat any meat or some dairy products because they're telling other people to stop eating meat from whales and they thought it might be a bit of a hypocrisy. The Sea Shepherds throw stink bombs at the whaling ships because it taints the meat which you can then only use for research. There were lots of questions asked and there we a couple of them that Grant couldn't answer. It was very interesting listening to .Grant because I wasn't very aware of how many whales were being killed

Waihopai River Planting

This morning at Enrich we went to plant about 300 trees and plants at the Waihopai River to stop mud from going into the river and when the river floods the mud will stick to the plants. We were there for about 2 hours. When we planted them we put it in the ground, put down the felt, put in four bamboo sticks and a cover. While we were planting, Darryn's dog Bruce was running round watching us and making sure we were doing it properly. After we had been planting for a long time we all got some juice. Then we went back to working for about an hour. Then Kate, Hannah H, Hannah M and Madison thanked us for helping them with what they organized. After that we walked up the hill back to the bus and came back to Enrich.

Charcoal drawings

Today at Enrich some of us did some drawing with charcoal. It's very messy but it comes off pretty easily. We practiced on a normal piece of A3 paper and our mountains looked like cartoon mountains. But we watched a video and it helped us a lot with what our mountains looked like. It took a long time but this is what it turned out like.

Today at Enrich

Today at Enrich we played chess this morning and I won all  3 games that I played. I versed Max once and Callum twice. Then we went on to passion time. For passion time I made a game. I started it last week and didn't get it finished but today I got the points on it working and now it is done. It had a lot of scripts that the ball had to do and here's the scripts for the panels for the game. It is very fun and 2 player. I'm glad that I got that finished it. After morning tea we did some P4C. The question was "Is it okay to pollute?" Mostly everybody said no it wasn't ok. Then we discussed what pollutes and if electricity pollutes. We think that most electricity doesn't like solar power and a few others. But coal powered things let off smoke and fumes into the atmosphere. So some power can harm the environment.

Hi Hyrum,

I was really impressed with the way your environment group put together your presentation for the airport mural.  It was great to see you look at your first draft of your mural, pick out what worked, what didn't work, and make changes accordingly.  Refining is what can make good things even better!
It was great to see you aspiring to new projects during passion time.  I hope that your stone carving comes together, and that mum has a blast working on it with you!

Air Pollution

Today at Enrich we looked at the air pollution. Wellington is the least polluted city in the world at the moment. The most polluted city is in Iran. It is called Avhas. It is the most polluted city in the world. I definitely wouldn't want to live there. If you don't know what it looks like have a look at these up the top. In most of these places you probably won't even be able to see the stars at night. You should be very happy that we have fresh air and clean water.

Environment

Today day at Enrich we worked on our environment projects. We organize the presentation. We also did a good copy of the mural that we are hopefully doing at the airport. We sorted where we think it should go and it is very blank. This is what it looks like.

Later on after morning tea we talked about water pollution. We watched a video about the water pollution and here's a link to it.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YAoyTsyM7M. It was saddening  seeing whats happening to the sea life. We found out that tortoises and turtles are now the most endangered animal groups. I hope that after you watch this you will think about you having fresh water because lots of other don't.
